MINI-LINK provides flexibility for urban broadband network

Denmark’s leading independent provider of broadband,
butlerNetworks, has secured ongoing support for its
growing network using the full scope of Ericsson’s
MINI-LINK portfolio.
With a rapidly growing market share and a reputation for
quality broadband transport services, butlerNetworks
requires to expand the network coverage with reliable
and flexible equipment. It has 30-40 sales partners in
Denmark, ranging from integrators and service providers
to operators and ISPs. butlerNetworks is a leased line
provider, supplying broadband capacity to whoever
requires it.
butlerNetworks’ nationwide network is designed around
delivering data, voice and video traffic to its broad range
of customers. Many of butlerNetworks’ customers have a
rapidly-growing demand for increased coverage and
capacity. While butlerNetworks previously operated a
multi-vendor network, the company turned to Ericssons's
flexible and reliable MINI-LINK portfolio to secure a rapid
and cost-efficient implementation of wireless broadband
in urban areas.
It has now been more than five years since butlerNetworks
started to deploy its MINI-LINK network from Ericsson.
A strong reputation, established through high-quality
equipment and a dedicated local presence, has created
strong relationship between the two companies. Ericsson
is now a preferred partner for the broadband provider
with the establishment of a framework agreement.
Ericsson provides flexible MINI-LINK point-to-point and
point-to-multipoint microwave systems with a variety of
interfaces. Thanks to the scalability of the solution,
butlerNetworks has secured a cost-efficient roll-out,
investing only in the capacity it requires. If transmission
demand increases unexpectedly, further capacity can
easily be added. Another advantage of working with
Ericsson’s equipment is that it actively supports different
access networks. For instance, butlerNetworks uses
MINI-LINK to transport Ethernet traffic to its WiMAX
systems or to DSLAM at its customer’s premises.
An essential part of butlerNetworks’ business is meeting
high demand with fast and flexible customer delivery.
Thanks to Ericsson's ability to quickly supply the
equipment needed, butlerNetworks has been able to
meet its customers' high demands on new locations and
new services. In operation, swift equipment roll-out
means a fast return on investment.
Søren Støvring-Hallsson, CEO, butlerNetworks, explains why Ericsson’s products and approach stood out for the company in terms of performance and reliability: “We believe that we get very good support from Ericsson. MINI-LINK from Ericsson is more than capable of handling our traffic needs.”
Ericsson will continue to exclusively provide flexible
MINI-LINK BAS and MINI-LINK E/HC point-to-point
microwave radio systems and support to butlerNetworks.
While there was a wealth of technical expertise within
butlerNetworks, Ericsson delivered product competence,
including implementation support and local training where
necessary. Ericsson has also been involved in updating the
existing microwave infrastructure and additional
improvement activities.
Jarand Hetting, Key Account Manager, Ericsson, comments on the perfect match between butlerNetworks’ needs and Ericssons’ MINI-LINK portfolio: “The functionality in Ericsson’s equipment mirrors the customer’s own need for flexibility. Logistics capability and the capacity to deliver a large volume of products in a short time is also vital, as butlerNetworks’ need for new coverage and
capacity does not always reflect its forecast.”
Working in close partnership, Ericsson’s equipment roll-out supports butlerNetworks’ own demands. Søren Støvring-Hallsson, underlines the value of continuing to deploy Ericsson equipment: “Ericsson is very professional in its approach, has been accommodating to our needs and continues to act as a good partner to us.”
